According to Pantone, the colour of the year is Emerald. I LOVE the colour emerald green! I’m a May baby after all and emerald IS May’s birthstone, so I suppose I come by it naturally!

It struck me that Pantone’s description of the colour included the word harmony.

“Lively. Radiant. Lush…

A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and  harmony .”

Chris, my awesome hubby, declared harmony, as his word recently. He embraced the meaning of the word both in the musical context as well as how we ‘might BE‘ in the world.

Merriam-webster dictionary ~ correspondence, accord <lives in harmony with her neighbors>

Wikipedia ~ In music, harmony is the use of simultaneous pitches (tones, notes), or chords.[1] The study of harmony involves chords and their construction and chord progressions and the principles of connection that govern them.[2] Harmony is often said to refer to the “vertical” aspect of music, as distinguished from melodic line, or the “horizontal” aspect.[3] Counterpoint, which refers to the interweaving of melodic lines, and polyphony, which refers to the relationship of separate independent voices, are thus sometimes distinguished from harmony.

A friend recently complimented me “I miss your blogs!” I have been blogging related to our Inn, Villa Amor del Mar, and our town but have been remiss writing about what inspires me. I took her words as a challenge and commited to get back to my inspired blogs as so much in life inspires me.

Looking back  it seems folks were most inspired by my design focused blogs. Given most interior design concepts that inspire me have a metaphor to ‘real life’ I thought I’d focus, at least for awhile, on design and how that can lead to so much in life that truly makes a difference to us and to the world. For instance, I started this block with the intention of sharing Pantones colour of the year ~ Emerald, which led me to the word harmony, which led to… enough rambling, I’ll let the photos speak.

In design school we learned that balance, harmony and rhythm was the goal, often achieved by using ‘splashes’ of a color.

I’ve completed the interiors of most of my personal projects and won’t be redoing anytime soon, so I’ll have to consider green as a fashion statement.

Harmony with my neighbours is and has always been paramount to me. Living in another country   I embrace the locals and am learning how to ‘be’in their world. I LOVE IT

There’s so much more I could add… eat healthy greens, drink green tea, spend time outdoors enjoying the greenery and never be…

  1. this is a wonderful, interesting blog really enjoyed it. Your Brother Ron’s favorite colour is also green. I wonder if it is because both of you have green eyes.
